Bedford and Kempston MP Mohammad Yasin has asked Mayor Tom Wootton to explain reported delays in renewing taxi and private hire licences, according to Bedford Today.
In a letter sent on Tuesday 13 October, the MP said drivers were facing uncertainty and financial pressure, while taxi businesses had raised concerns about the effect on their operations.
What answers is the MP seeking?
Yasin has asked the mayor to set out why applications are being delayed, how long processing currently takes and whether a backlog has built up. He also wants to know whether staffing changes or budget decisions have affected the licensing service.
No backlog size or confirmed waiting time was reported.
Drivers need a clear update
The MP acknowledged the importance of proper licensing checks but called for a clear explanation and a plan to resolve the reported problems.
Bedford Today said it had approached the council and mayor for comment. Its article, updated on 14 October, did not include their response.
